Colonia, Yap. December 9, 2016. Senators Joseph J. Urusemal and Isaac V. Figir of the Yap Congressional Delegation, prepares to join the other Members of 19th Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) in the nation’s capital in Palikir, Pohnpei for the 7th Special Session of Congress. This is likely the last Session for this calendar year set to commence on December 14, 2016.
President Peter M. Christian called for the convening of this five-days Special Session in his Presidential Communication 19-501 to Speaker Wesley W. Simina, noting that the primary purpose of this Special Session is for Congress to deliberate on “several important nominations to advice and consent positions, a bill to amend the Foreign Investment Act of 1997, and a proposed appropriation for air services improvement in the FSM.”
The President also stated that the Executive Branch will be “submitting budget legislation for Congress to consider appropriating funds to cover known shortfalls in the FY’17 approved budget.”
Congress will take up these and other pending legislation during this five-days Special Session. The Session may be shortened or extended by a Congressional Resolution.
